About this role
Improve customer experience of Tesla vehicles by improving field reliability of Autopilot hardware. Own failure analysis, root cause, containment and corrective action for Autopilot HW across all vehicle lines while maintaining a close partnership with Autopilot HW, SW, FW, systems integration, sensing, supplier industrialization and related engineering teams. This is a highly hands onhands-on individual contributor role, involving . primarily bench and lab work, with supporting fleet and service data analysis. You own the subsystem end to end, from first failure through validated countermeasures.
Responsibilities
Investigate field failures on the Autopilot Hardware PCBA (SoC, memory, Ethernet, IMU, power and related ICs) across all vehicle platforms Use lab and board tools to isolate issues on Autopilot PCBAs with oscilloscopes, X ray, CT, thermal imaging and CAN/kernel/SoC logs Apply first principles and 5-Why thinking to reach root cause and engage suppliers for FA when necessary Drive containment and corrective actions through implementation and validation with your team and partner orgs Use Python and SQL to review field data and find trends to prioritize investigations (20% data, 80% hands-on hardware) Collaborate across Autopilot HW, SW, FW, systems integration, sensing, supplier industrialization and others depending on the nature of the failure mode investigation Clearly communicate findings, risks, and status to peers and leadership & help the team track root-cause, countermeasure, repair rates and reliability trends
Requirements
1–5 years hands-on experience in failure analysis, reliability, electronics debug, or related embedded/electro-mechanical hardware. New grads with strong hardware background, co-op or internship experience are also welcome Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or equivalent experience Familiarity with circuit-level components i.e. voltage regulators, PMICs, Ethernet switches, IMU/sensors, etc. and reading/interpreting datasheets to ramp quickly on new parts Hands-on PCBA or electrical-system debug and testing Familiarity with Linux, Python, and SQL for board interaction, data review, and fleet queries Strong attention to detail, structured problem-solving, and clear written/verbal communication Able to work on-site in the lab most days (primarily in-person, limited remote flexibility) Manufacturing, supplier or NPI exposure (helpful, not required) Experience with DDR/high-speed interfaces, Ethernet or automotive electronics (helpful, not required) Student competition or substantial personal HW projects (helpful, not required)
