About this role
About Us
We are The Robotics Company, building the infrastructure that enables robots to be deployed at scale. In just six months, we’ve grown from $0 to $1M in revenue, driven by strong demand for what we’re building. We’re backed by some of the most influential leaders and operators across AI, robotics, and technology, including Dr. Marc Pollefeys; the founder of Hugging Face; leaders behind Google Maps and Android; executives from Google DeepMind and Google Cloud; robotics leaders from DeepMind and Scale AI; SV Angel; and operators from OpenAI, Anthropic, DeepMind, and more. Our mission is to build the foundational infrastructure that brings intelligent robots out of the lab and into the real world.
The Role
We’re looking for an exceptional researcher to help push the frontier of 3D understanding, reconstruction, and spatial intelligence for robotics. You’ll develop algorithms and systems that transform images, video, point clouds, and meshes into explicit, physically grounded representations of the real world. Your work will span dynamic scene reconstruction, spatial and semantic understanding, object pose estimation and placement, and agentic systems that automate complex reconstruction workflows. You’ll move fluidly between foundational research and hands-on system building, helping define and deliver capabilities across the 3D perception stack that enable robots to understand and interact with complex, real-world environments.
Key Responsibilities
Develop robust methods for reconstructing and understanding static and dynamic 3D scenes from video and other visual inputs.
Build models for room layout estimation, scene geometry, semantic structure, and complex spatial relationships.
Develop high-accuracy 6DoF object pose estimation and placement methods using visual and 3D inputs.
Advance multi-view geometry, registration, point-cloud processing, segmentation, and mesh-based reasoning pipelines.
Design agentic reconstruction systems that can plan, execute, evaluate, and iteratively improve complex, multi-step reconstruction workflows.
Build research harnesses, benchmarks, and evaluation frameworks to measure quality, robustness, and failure modes across the 3D perception stack.
Collaborate closely with engineering and product teams to translate research breakthroughs into reliable, production-ready capabilities for real-world robotic systems.
What We're Looking For
PhD in Computer Science, Robotics, Computer Vision, Machine Learning, or a related field, or equivalent research and industry experience developing advanced 3D perception systems.
Deep expertise in computer vision, computer graphics, robotics perception, machine learning, or related areas.
Strong experience with 3D reconstruction, multi-view geometry, SLAM/SfM, neural rendering, scene understanding, or adjacent fields.
Hands-on experience working with video, point clouds, meshes, camera geometry, and 6DoF object pose estimation.
A track record of developing novel algorithms and carrying them from initial research through rigorous evaluation and implementation.
Strong practical coding ability and experience building end-to-end research prototypes that work beyond controlled experiments.
Excellent technical judgment, with the ability to choose between classical geometry, learned methods, and hybrid approaches based on the problem at hand.
Nice to Have (Not Required)
Experience with dynamic NeRFs, Gaussian splatting, world models, embodied AI, visual agents, or other emerging approaches to 3D scene representation and spatial intelligence.
Experience building large-scale datasets, simulation environments, or automated evaluation systems for 3D vision and robotics.
Publications at leading vision, graphics, robotics, or machine learning venues, or meaningful contributions to widely used open-source projects in these areas.
Thrives in a fast-moving, high-ownership startup environment, with the ambition, urgency, and genuine passion for physical AI and robotics to turn ambitious research ideas into real-world systems.
Why Join Us?
This is a rare opportunity to work alongside some of the world’s top researchers and engineers in robotics and AI, building the systems that will move intelligent robots out of the lab and into the real world.
We’re at an inflection point. In just six months, we’ve grown from $0 to $1M in revenue, and we’re rapidly scaling our team across San Francisco and Zurich as we tackle increasingly ambitious problems in robot learning, manipulation, and real-world deployment.
If you’re looking for a mature organization with narrowly defined problems and established playbooks, this may not be the place for you.
If you want to join early, work at the frontier of robotics and embodied AI, and help build the foundational technology that enables robots to operate intelligently and reliably at scale — this is it!
